It is important to understand that the diagnosis cannot be made based on tTG value alone. In a study conducted by University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center, 10% of the suspected patients with a high tTG value were diagnosed with a different disease at the time of endoscopy and biopsy. One should not stop gluten intake before the diagnosis. Gluten intake for a period of about 8-12 weeks prior to biopsy is needed to obtain accurate results.
It is extremely critical to arrive at the diagnosis carefully as it involves a lifelong modification of diet for the individual.
